A report [PDF} from Emily Oster and Bryce Millett says that if there are call centers in the neighborhood, it gives a boost to school enrollment in the locality. People in the area go for English-medium schools in particular.
How can we use this information in ensuring quality education in every one of 600-odd district throughout India? I say, start by supporting the opening of BPO units, Call Centers, and the Basic Industrial cluster (food processing, texttiles, sustainable energy) in every district in India.
This, IMHO, might promote enlightened educational and training activity. What better to promote quality education than the prospect of landing a job where you live?
This I think will put pressure on both teachers and students to perfrom.
What do you think?
