Remove ‘M’ from AMU, ‘H’ from BHU, says UGC panel

On October 9, 2017 By newsroom Topic: Education And Schools

The Indian Express reports that a UGC committe has suggested that the words ‘Muslim’ and ‘Hindu’ be dropped from the names of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and Banaras Hindu University (BHU), respectively, to reflect their secular character.

AMU be called just ‘Aligarh University’ or be named after its founder, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan.

Howvever, keeping the current government and 'feelings' of Indians in mind, this suggestion won't be used by the government. Although you might hear RSS types to suggest AMU changing its name first
