Prepare your car for hurricane season to ensure safety and functionality when needed. Here are essential tips to help your vehicle weather the storm:
Fill the Gas Tank
   - Keep your car fueled in case of power outages or long evacuation distances.
Check and Replace Wipers
   - Install fresh windshield wipers or clean existing ones with window cleaner for streak-free visibility.
Inspect Tire Pressure
   - Ensure all tires, including the spare, are properly inflated. Debris-littered roads increase puncture risks.
Pack a Go-Bag
   - Include:
     - Cash, water, food, clothes, medications, and essentials.
     - A paper map for navigation if digital devices fail.
Bring a Car Charger
   - Ensure your phone stays charged with an in-car charger.
Prepare a Battery Jump Starter
   - Useful for jump-starting your car and charging mobile devices.
Check Car Windows and Sunroof
   - Ensure they are securely closed to prevent water damage.
Take Photos
   - Document your car’s condition before the storm for insurance claims.
Park on High Ground
   - Minimize flood risks by parking away from low-lying areas.
Protect the Garage
    - Park tightly against the garage door (sideways) to reinforce it against high winds.
Store Insurance Paperwork
    - Keep copies in a waterproof bag within your go-bag for easy access after the storm.
Drive Cautiously
    - Avoid speeding, especially in rain, to reduce hydroplaning risks. Stick to main roads.
Avoid Flooded Areas
    - Do not drive through flooded zones or near downed power lines.
Limit Cars
Stick to Known Routes
With these proactive measures, your car can serve as a reliable resource during a hurricane. Stay safe!
