Wage Theft: A Problem Bigger Than Plain Robbery

On August 17, 2016 By pramitsingh Topic: Crime, Career

According to a news report, in 2012 US authorities recovered $933 million from employers, whom they termed as perpetrators of wage theft. Compare this amount to the $341 million the authorities value all the property taken in robberies of all types in 2012, solved or unsolved. Wage theft is of many forms, from underpaying working (less than local minimum wage) , not paying them overtime; or just tinkering with job titles to avoid regulations. The Week says that Wage Theft is a $20-50 billion/year crime in the United States alone.
