U.S. cellphone users are no longer held hostage by the four major cellphone carriers with two-year contracts. Most cellphone plans are less restrictive nowadays. If you can spend time on research, you can buy cellphone access from third party providers.

However, whatever cellphone plan you choose, you will need to compromise on your choice of phones, amount of data you can use, the rate at which you paying for voice and data, as well as the coverage area in which you can roam, even inside U.S.
