A lap desk is a clever name. For one, a lap desk desk is for putting the laptop away from your regular desk. Then, they are to be put over your lap / body on bed as you use your laptop. Get it?

Keep in mind that lap desk are not meant for heavy duty use. Ergonomic experts suggest your computer’s display should be placed at your eye level, about arm’s length away from your body. The keyboard should be placed such that your arms are bent at most 90 degrees at the elbow and your wrists are in a neutral, straight position. But these recommendations fail in case of laptops, more so in case of lap desks.

Long term laptop use in ergonomics-unfriendly places may result in - unnatural neck, wrist, and arm positions and resulting injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome or neck strain.

A good lap desk is a simple thing. It is light but stable. Some provide insulation to the heat generated from the laptop. They also provide support for large laptops.
