Gaming laptops always suffer when compared to gaming desktops, on counts of energy consumption and price. However, for people who like to play games while on the move or anywhere in the house, gaming laptops are preferred.

A good gaming laptop has powerful graphics card (GPU), fast processor (CPU), as much memory (RAM) as possible, and good storage. They also come with better chassis heat and noise management. Their keyboard, display, trackpad are made for fast use. They may also have good speakers. 

Of late, there are many thin and light gaming laptops but they tend to get too hot.  You can add an (external) graphics amplifier to give your thin ultrabook desktop-level gaming power. 

Ultrahigh-resolution screens / 4K screens are in vogue, but just like in case of video content, there is not much need and gaming content that needs 4 K resolution.
