The Best Electric Vehicle

On July 17, 2018 By newsroom Topic: Best Products

Important things to know about electric vehicles: Electric vehicles have no internal combustion engine, unlike electric hybrids or plug-in hybrids. They have batteries / battery which run a motor that makes no sound. That's it. Their drawback is their range, around 100 miles at best. This will improve as battery technology improves.

Moreover, studies show that the average American drives only 30 miles a day and most cars spend 90% of their time parked. At the national average of 12 cents/kWh, electricity costs the equivalent of $1-per-gallon gas.

Choose electric vehicles with bigger / multiple or both batteries. Good electric vehilce salso have fast charge ports. They also have navigation system to help you find the nearest charging stations.

Electric heat pumps (to warm the car) are preferable over resistive pumps, as they are more energy efficient and don't consume battery juice that much.

Also make sure what safety equipment the electric vehicle has -  airbags, electronic stability control, traction control, antilock brakes, seat-belt pretensioners, etc.

Important things to know about chraging electric vehicles:

Chargers
Level 1 chargers: On a typical 15-amp, 110-volt circuit, every hour of charging recharges about 4 or 5 miles’ worth of range.
Level 2 chargers (240 volts): You can recharge at about 8 miles per hour.
Level 3 Superchargers (480 volts, 200 amps)  can recharge at 10-12 miles per hour.

Reemeber this: Charging an electric car at Level 2 will take as much electricity as powering everything else in your house combined.

MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent)
One gallon of gasoline contains about the same energy as 33.7 kilowatt-hours of electricity, So, if the Nissan LEAF is rated at 108 MPGe, it means that car's operating efficiency is on par with a conventional car that gets 108 mpg.

It makes better money sense to lease your electric car. It can cost less up front and month-to-month than taking out a loan, and it also gives you the federal government’s tax rebate up front, and also lowers your exposure to the long-term financial risk of a new technology.
