Forget all those shiny Google ads for Chrome or jobs. Plugd.in writes about how Google gives the wrong end of the stick to free speech in India. Reportedly, Google has complied to 50% content removal requests from Indian Government.
The numbers:
India made 1061 data requests from July 2009 to December 2009; and the number has increased to 1430, between January – June, 2010 timeframe.
In total, Google complied with 53.3% of removal requests (partially or fully)
- 30 removal requests, for a total of 125 items
- 53.3% of removal requests fully or partially complied with
