You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.
You're on your own.

HOW TO SET GOALS
To set a high standard for yourself, start with the end-result, break it down into its most easily doable components, and the focus on each component.

This Break-it-Down mental exercise is useful in all sorts of activities apart from business goals like sales targets. A suitable analogy would be Sachin Tendulkar (McCormack uses Michael Jordan). A prolific Century maker might be thinking in terms of ‘ 50 runs in the first 20 overs’, & ‘ 25 in the next 10’, ‘reach to hundred before the 40th over’ and the onslaught in the final 10 ‘slog’ overs.
- The late Mark McCormack, Chairman of International Management Group

S.M.A.R.T. OBJECTIVES

Smart objectives are:

Stretching objectives
They have profitable potential. But use stretching sensibly.

Measurable objectives
They have a definite quantifiable measure - e.g. to increase profits by 10%.

Acceptable objectives
People give total commitment to them. These objectives tap into people natural energy & enthusiasm. People fill like it is their ‘own’ objective.

Recorded objectives
You must record what exactly a) you aim to achieve b) whether you are achieving it c) The extent to which you are succeeding (or failing) to reach it.

Time-limited objectives
So people know when they must achieve them.

"A dream is just a dream. A goal is a dream with a plan and a deadline."
