How to influence customer service people and make friends with them

On June 15, 2012 By thesuccessmanual Topic: Customer service, Howto

If you are lucky enough to pass through the maze of IVR choices, then now you got to make the customer service person at the other end really help you out with your problem, which can be a long drawn and often impossible job, considering the heat generated from your anger levels and the service rep's indifference/obtuseness. Lifehacker has some tips. In summary, they are:

1. Talk About How Awesome the Service You Receive Usually Is
2. Break Down Your Problem without Pointing Fingers at the Representative
3. Butter them up slowly over time and say "thanks" as much as possible.
4. Stay Calm and Crack Jokes Throughout the Conversation

+ Caveat: It's not always going to work because sometimes a little craziness is what you really need, but you might be surprised at how far being relaxed and brown nosey will take you on call with your cable company.
