Does beeping out expletives weaken a film's effect: The case of The Bully

On March 16, 2012 By newsguide Topic: Films

The MPAA slapped an R rating on Bully, a documentary film about adolescent bullying, basically reasoning that kids will be watching the film with their parents, and feel awkward. Now, the producers can choose to show the film in theatres without editing, thus earning a NC-17 rating, or they can edit out the offending words.

Now, of course you will say that censorship is silly, but let's think about it artistically: can we make an effective film about a sensitive subject like school-bullying without resorting to use the **** word? It can be done. That is the artist's challenge. Think: How would Chaplin do it?
