War correspondent Marie Colvin, before she died in Syrian city of Homs, wrote that paywalls were a hinderance in making useful reports from conflict area available to a wider audience across the world, restricting useful information only to those who could pay.  That is the paradox of news business today: how to fund serious reportage and still be able to make sure that the reportage reaches the widest possible reach.
