5 Exercise Techniques to Get Rid of a Double Chin

A double chin can result from genetics, looser skin, or excess fat under the chin (submental fat). These exercises can help tighten the area and improve its appearance.


1. Stick Out That Tongue

  • How to Do It:
  • Face forward and open your mouth wide.
  • Stick your tongue out as far as possible, slowly.
  • Lift your tongue upward toward your nose and hold for 10–15 seconds.
  • Pull your tongue back in and repeat.

2. Stretch That Neck

  • How to Do It:
  • Tilt your head back to look at the ceiling.
  • Press your tongue against the roof of your mouth and hold for 10–15 seconds.
  • Optionally, "kiss" the ceiling by puckering your lips.
  • Relax your lips and repeat.

3. Straighten Out That Jaw

  • How to Do It:
  • Tilt your head back to look at the ceiling.
  • Push your lower jaw forward as far as possible.
  • Feel the stretch under your chin and hold for 10–15 seconds.
  • Relax and return to a neutral position. Repeat as often as desired.

4. Tighten Up That Bottom Jaw

  • How to Do It:
  • Tilt your head back to look at the ceiling.
  • Turn your head to the right.
  • Slide your lower jaw forward as far as possible until you feel the stretch.
  • Hold for 10–15 seconds, then relax and return to neutral.
  • Repeat on the other side.

5. Laying Lifts

  • How to Do It:
  • Lie face-up in bed with your head hanging off the edge.
  • Keep your back and shoulders pressed firmly against the bed.
  • Slowly lift your head toward your chest.
  • Hold for 10–15 seconds, then return to the starting position.
  • Repeat as many times as you like.
