The Zen of Mastering E-mail: In Under 100 words

This guide belongs to 100 Ways To Be Being Remarkable Series, a special project that brings you business and self-development advice from The Success Manual.

WRITE A FIVE-SENTENCE EMAIL
Whether UR young or old, the point is that the optimal length of an email message is five sentences. All you should do is explain who you are, what you want, why you should get it, and when you need it by.
- Guy Kawasaki

THREE MUST-HAVE FOLDERS IN YOUR E-MAIL

1.Follow Up: tasks you must complete.
2.Archive: your long-term email reference library.
3. Hold: a temporary holding pen for important messages you'll need quick access to within the next few days.
- Gina Trapani, Lifehacker.com

SEND GREAT PERSONAL E-MAIL
1. Do not use BCC or MAIL MERGE. Write separate letters to each contact.
2. Speak like humans do, without sounding like a marketer or a government official
3. Write a subject line that describes your email, without making false promises.
4. Use a signature with a real phone number.
5. Be short.

Before you type anything into a new message, have explicit answers for two questions:
1. Why am I writing this?
2. What exactly do I want the result of this message to be?
- Merlin Mann

Men, Women and E-mail
Before sending an email remember that women may not generally be easily persuaded over email because there is less opportunity to form relationships from which attitude changes can be built.
Men, however, tend to be less competitive over email and are better able to concentrate on arguments presented, rather than being distracted by seeing the other man as a threat.
