A friend asks me on Gtalk, "Who is is behind the Mumbai Terror attacks"? I reply "It is not me". We talked about how every big crime case in India looks like the Arushi murder case when the poilce investigators managed to point fingers at so many people that I was relieved they did not mention me.

A sample list of probable culprits that the police forces will go through one by one:

1. Hindu terrorists - For example, this blog post points the finger at Hindu Extremists.
Reason: One of the terrorists shown on TV wore a red string of some kind like Hindus do after puja ceremonies.

2. Disenchanted muslims - who are unhappy with their lot and the way they Muslims are targeted by the police forces after any terror event.

3. Pakistan - Maybe Zardari is a Hawk pretending to be a Dove.

4. Terror Group based in Pakistan - There are so many of them out there. Laskar - E Toiba (LET) is a prime suspect. Newspapers are writing about how unsafe the Sir creek in Gujarat has become.

5. Mafia Gang (possibly led by a Muslim), on its way up.

6. Unemployed youth with a flair for organization and lust for wanton violence.

7. Educated people with to much time on their hand who want to explore the heart of darkness.

Then, there will be some who will say that a political party organized this reign of terror in order to spook voters against a particular party.

There are as many supsects as there are opinions and this is the wya things are in India, where every incident-free day in the life of a working peson is a blessing. 

 Watch the excellent movie "A Wednesday", fast forward to the end where Naseruddin Shah's angry common man gives his speech and you will know how the common Indian feels about terrorism and the police force.
