Leo is the author of the ZenHabits.net blog. Like Steve Pavlina, he became a successful blogger in less than a year. Whereas Steve focuses on personbal development, Leo's focus area is the pursuit of smplicity in life. Following the success of his blog, Leo wrote the successful "The Power of Less" book. A soft place to land Here’s my life’s mission: Be an amazing dad. As for individual goals, I have a lot, but here are some of the top ones: Eliminate debt and save. Summary: The Power of Less The only way you’ll form long-lasting habits is by applying the Power of Less: 1. Focus on one habit at a time, one month at a time, so that you’ll be able to focus all your energy on creating that one habit. 2. Set your 3 MITs (Most Important Tasks) each morning. 3. Single-task. When you work on a task, don’t switch to other tasks. 4. The key to productivity, for me, has been simplifying. 5. Identify the essential and eliminate the rest: reevaluate your needs vs. wants and eliminate the wants; 6. Create a thirty-day list: When you want to buy something that’s not essential, put it on your thirty-day list with today’s date. A month later, reevaluate the purchase - you probably won’t want it; and 7. Avoid advertising: Eliminate emails with advertisements and discounts that might tempt you to buy things you don’t need. Advertising is proven to cause us to spend more. Find your "flow" “Flow” is that state of mind that you get into when you lose yourself in a task. Set yourself up for “flow” by focusing on things you’re passionate about, challenging yourself, and eliminating distractions. You’ll be setting yourself up for success. The most important blogging question: You should be asking, “How can I most help my reader?” How to have a happy, confident and successful kid: Show that you care about what they do, help them become competent, give them confidence in their competence, support them, love them. There's no one answer, but if you do these things, I think you'll succeed. How to simplify Marketing Do less. Marketers tend to overdo things, which makes people sick of them, leery of their methods and message. 1. Do less. If you find yourself doing a message blitz, back off. Create a more powerful and attractive message, and let it speak for itself. 2. Do small things. Little things can go a long way these days. 3. Be valuable. Give people what they need, give away value, and they will appreciate you for it. 4. Attract, don't smother. By creating value, a powerful message, you can get people to come to you, instead of trying to smother them with your message and brand. How to get out of a depressing rut It’s part of the human condition. ..The key, for me, has been to find ways to get things under some semblance of control, and that always means action. Take action, and you’ll feel instantly better, because you’re doing something to get your life under control. Related: The Bets Lessons of Steve Pavlina
