India is worried that China might soon go ahead with building teh proposed mega dam over the Yarlung Tsangpo river, which is called the Brahmaputra river downstream in India. Some important facts about the proposed mega Dam:
200m: Tonnes of CO2 the mega dam would save, as per Chinese engineers.
38: Amount of power (in gigawatt), the hydro-plant at Motuo would produce.
2,000-metre: The cumulative fall of the river as it reaches down towards India.
100m tonnes: Amount of energy equivalent generated from burning crude coal, or all the oil and gas in the South China sea.
12: Number of major rivers which originate on the Tibetan Plateau.
25 billion US dollars: Cost of the Three Gorges Dam.
1.5: Times the proposed dam is cositler than the Three Gorges Dam. Some say, it might cost as much as 50 billion dollars
