On Indian journalists with political affiliations

In truth, few media outlets are really unbiased. In fact, a media house betrays its leanings right when it plays safe with regards to the establishment. Many media houses have made their names siding with whoever is in power. This blog post lists the Press council of India's guidelines for media houses during elections but it would be helpful if we knew which media owner is friends with which politician.

For example, Pranoy Roy of NDTV was a friend of a school-friend of Rajiv Gandhi. Prabhu Chawla of Aaj Tak once hoped to get a Rajya Sabha ticket with BJP's help. Deepak Chaurasia, who is now with Star News, was given the reigns of DD News during the Vajpayee government. Chandan Mitra of the Pioneer is openly with the BJP. God bless him for his honesty. Most journalists are not so honest with their political affiliations.

It is not surprising that most smart politicians know the true nature of journalists. I suggest you visit a typical press conference or two. Any wonder why some political parties have their own TV channels and newspapers?
